"Hollywood celebs trumpet, swing...Mysore, Jan 20 - Audience at JSS Women's College were left spellbound last evening when three-time Grammy awardee Mr. Mark Isham played the trumpet accompanied by his sister-in-law Ms. Raven Kane who rocked playing the Khanjira (a hand-held percussion instrument) and joyously sang making the evening a 'magical' one.

"Dressed in a dazzling cream-coloured top and black skin-tight trousers, Raven stole the show as she beamed a smile all the time singing and dancing.

"The tempo suddenly changed to a rip-roaring and foot-tapping one and the frenzied girls had a gala time, as Raven waved to them telling them to dance.

"Raven Kane will sing in a more loving world...It has been said this is a crazy, mixed-up world.

"In this day and age, it's hard not to adopt the attitude. The worst part is that the situation demands our attention.

"We desperately need people willing to stand up and be counted in these times of trouble and confusion.

"Raven Kane is one of those people.

"A dynamic singer and brilliant songwriter-performer, Miss Kane is special not only because of the energy and excitement she puts into her work. It's what she says.

"'What my music conveys is that within each of us lies the truth,' she said. 'By daring to take responsibility for that trugh, we can find the inner strenght to honestly communicate with each other, thus opening the door to a safer, saner, more loving world.'

"Music has been a constant in her life, since early childhood. As she grew, she developed a strong belief in the beauty of life inherent in every individual. This belief is conveyed with explosive power and energy in her work.

"'Skylines.' a nuw musical that just opened at the New Jersey Theater Forum in Plainfield, features her music an lyrics. Her music centers around the theme that the 'inability to be honest with ourselves and others leads to separation and isolation.'

"The musical involves four people who have been either divorced or separated. They meet at a restaurant by chance and come to grips with their problems, their inability to communicate and the pain and loneliness that result.

"The four are willing to risk communication -- to reveal all their heartaches, foibles, desires and hopes -- in order to gain a deeper understanding and better life. Their conversation is interspersed with song.

"Performing at age 5

"Miss Kane exhibits a driving strengthborn of persistence and genius that has carried her forward since she first began performing with her father on his Chicago radio program at the age of 5.

"At 14 she formed her own singing and dancing troupe with the help fo a local priest. It became popular in America and toured Europe for two summers. Later she visited hospitals and prisons. She was impressed with the revitalizing effect that music has on people..."

Raven's (Pauline) early days as singer/ songwriter, 1978

"NIGHT OWL, Making Advances...Whatt's a Girl from Bearsville, Ind., doing at a candlelit grand piano in a Manhattan town house parlor singing about catching fireflies in a jar? Showing off her voice and her songs and trying to catch a few backers.

"Pauline Frechette, who has played the cabaret circuit from the Ballroom to the Bushes to Barbararann, was invited by Louis Srybnik to bring her act to his living room for a few--about 50--guests with possible contacts and cash for helping her produce an album.

"Srybnik is a director of a nonprofit group called the Flare Foundation for the Arts, which was formed during the bicentennial to offer support and direction to artists and craftsmen. Flare generally doesn't open its homes as display cases, but they've been known to do it when they're really impressed, as in this case, so Srybnik arranged a soiree with wine and cheese and socializing (and a contribution to cover expenses). If this idea spreads, it could mean a whole new private world of cabaret.

"Frechette sounds good and I was particulary impressed by her talent in a story she told of composing in her loft apartment about 3 a.m. whena a critical brick sailed through the window, breaking it. Far from being shattered by this, when the cops came to investigate, she got them to sit down and listen to her songs.

"She goes public again Feb. 10 and 11 at Barbarann..."
